Sefa’s Royal Lustrum, 100 years of Sefa
What is lustrum?
A lustrum is a term of a five year period. This is Sefa’s 20th lustrum, making it 100 years old this upcoming May. This makes it an extra special year and milestone for Sefa. The goal is to look back on and celebrate the achievements of the association together with its current and alumni members. Therefore the obvious choice for this year’s lustrum theme would be ‘Royal’. This originated from a Royal Designation you can get from the Dutch government once your entity reaches 100 years old. The title is meant to symbolise the respect, appreciation and trust the monarchy shows towards the organisation. Although the chairman of the 99th board tried relentlessly to grant Sefa its Royal Designation, it is still a work in progress. Regardless of the Royal status, we are still throwing the grandest royal celebration this May.
What is meant by the theme?
We do not just mean the monarchy with kings and queens, it’s 2022! Royal can be defined as anything unique and out of the ordinary that reaches far beyond anyone’s expectations. Think luxury, expensive, over the top, and extravagance. Each event has a location and theme that will embody the different meanings behind Royal. The Lustrum committee has been working hard over the past year to make sure every last detail exemplifies Royal and luxury. We will share some dress code tips soon on our socials to make sure you’re prepared!
How can you attend the events?
We will have various ticket sales including the passé partouts (sold out), the combi ticket (sold until Friday, 8th of April), and individual tickets for each event. You must be a Sefa member or alumni to attend all events, unless you are a Sefa member or alumni’s date to the Grand Ball or you want to attend our open end party (make sure you invite all your friends!).

Message from old Member
Since (most of) our current members have never experienced a Lustrum year with Sefa, we asked an alumni, who used to organise a previous Lustrum, to share some tips about how to get the most out of this exciting period!
Filipp is an alumni Sefa member who currently serves in the ‘Raad van toezicht’ from the Lustrum Committee
How long have you been a Sefa member?
I have been a Sefa member since 2010 till 2017 (since then an alumni)
What committees did you do?
I was an interviewer for Room for Discussion, the chairman for the International Development Project to West-Papua and organised the Sefa Lustrum
How many lustrums have you had?
I had the pleasure to experience two Lustrums
How did you experience your lustrums or what made them more special from previous (normal) years?
During the Lustrum year, everything is more intense; events are larger and tons of social activities. For me, it was nice to see that it brought so many friends together. We even had a Sefa celebrity flying in from China.
How can people experience their lustrum to the fullest? Any tips?
There isn’t a particular tip I can give you other than to just experience it to the fullest. There is a great team of people working on organising the most wonderful events. Maybe one last tip: be quick once the tickets go on sale. I believe back in my time the passé partout tickets were sold out in 15 minutes.
What are you currently doing?
I work at an M&A boutique here in Amsterdam
